Charnokite mine (aka blue metal):
Golden India Mines have acquired over 700 acres of land in Padhmanabamangalam & Thollappan Villages in Tuticorin District. The land contains best quality Charnokite and the company is in process of submitting the mining lease Application covering an extent of 31.05 hectares of potential area with the Government of Tamil Nadu.
There is a huge demand for blue metals and crushed sand for infrastructure development and for the harbour. Demand for blue metals is high in Maldives, South Africa, Mauritius, Andaman, Srilanka, etc.
Out of (300) 700 acres we have selected 300 acres (12 hectares). Apart from the land utilized for dumping yard, construction of buildings, erection of machineries, etc, 100 hectares of land can be scientifically and safely used for quarrying. . The reserve potential of 100 hectares of land is 62.0 million tonnes. With an average cost of Rs. 100/tonne, the value of the reserve is Rs. 620 Crores.
