Arakkonam Residential development

The proposed 33 acres residential project is located just 4 kms from Arakkonam Railway Junction.  Arakkonam is one of the busiest railway junctions in the state and is easily accessible form Chennai with frequent electric trains. 

Arakkonam is strategically located close to Sriperumbudur, Oragadam and Thiruvallur, which are renowned industrial hubs in the Country. 

The project will have 15 acres of farm land development and 15 acres of DTCP approved plots.  The development will have all the amenities and facilities that one will expect in a residential layout and will cater to the existing industrial catchment in the immediate neighbourhood.

Arakkonam Naval Air Station

Arakkonam Naval Air Station(IATA:N/A, ICAO: VOAR) is located near Arakkonam in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The runway is the second longest in India after the Hyderabad International Airport.

ARAKKONAM: Arakkonam railway station will be remodelled at a cost of Rs.13 crore, according to Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu.

Talking to newspersons at the Anvardhikhanpettai railway station near here on Monday, Mr. Velu said that out of the Rs.13 crore, Rs. seven crore has been allotted for the extension of all the five platforms to accommodate 24-coach trains, while Rs. six crore has been allotted for improvement of passenger amenities. Since the tracks and platforms had a lot of curves, they would be straightened.

The height of the platforms would be raised. The works, which have been approved, would be started soon.

Mr. Velu said that the road around the Arakkonam railway station and the side road would be upgraded, while the passenger reservation service centre and rest rooms in the station would be modernised. Touch-screen kiosks and coach identification boards would be provided at the station. An amount of Rs. 60 lakh has been allotted for the extension of the platform in the Anvardhikhanpettai railway station. Besides, drinking water facility would be provided by digging a borewell and installing an electric motor pump at a cost of Rs.1.5 lakh at the station.

The first platform would be extended to 120 metres at a cost of Rs. five lakh while a passenger shelter would be provided for the second platform at a cost of Rs.7.5 lakh, he said.

The Minister said that the railways proposed to introduce aluminium coaches for goods trains. Aluminium coaches would weigh less than the iron coaches but can carry more laden weight.

The railways have sanctioned road overbridges (ROBs) across railway tracks in all level-crossings in Tamil Nadu where the number of train vehicle units (the product of the number of trains passing through at the level crossing and the number of road vehicles crossing the track at the level-crossing) was more than one lakh. The railways have sanctioned 83 ROBs in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs.1200 crore.

Earlier inaugurating the stoppage of the train nos.6222/6221 Chennai Central-Mysore-Chennai Central Cauvery Expresses at Anvardhikhanpettai railway station, Mr. Velu said that only four passenger trains are already stopping at this station, which is a halt station, selling only about 300 tickets daily. There is no provision for stopping express/mail trains at halt stations.

The stoppage of the Cauvery Express would be suitable for the traders of Anvardhikhanpettai, he said.

Arul Anbarasu, Sholinghur MLA requested the Minister to stop the Chennai-Bangalore-Chennai Expresses also at Anvardhikhanpettai. J. Hassain, former Ranipet MLA requested the Minister to introduce electromotive unit trains between Chennai and Katpadi. K.L. Elavazagan, Arcot MLA urged the Minister to upgrade the Anvardhikhanpettai station.
